8:30 a.m. Adlerian Psychology: Theory to Practice
Goal: Participants will examine six basic Adlerian
concepts of social embeddedness, self-determination and
creativity, goal directness, subjectivity, holism, and
social interest as these ideas pertain to our roles as care
givers, counselors and educators.
10:00 a.m. BREAK
10:15 a.m. Understanding Discouraged Children
Goal: Participants will investigate factors
contributing to the discouragement of children and the goals
of behavior of the discouraged children.
12:00 Noon HOSTED LUNCH
1:00 p.m. Counseling Demonstration
Goal: Participants will identify three parental
leader-ship styles and five Adlerian components of living
and learning with children through observation of a
counseling demonstration with a parent or parents of young
children.
2:30 BREAK
2:45 p.m.
Goal: Participants will identify four components of
positive relationships with children, learn the differences
between praise and encouragement and practice the language
of encouragement.

Discouraged Adolescents
Goal: Participants will study five methods of
understanding adolescents and adults as developed by Alfred
Adler and the development of discouragement in adolescents.
10:00p.m. BREAK
10:15 a.m.: Counseling Demonstration
Goal: Participants will examine five challenges of
living through the experience of adolescence.
12:00 Noon Lunch on your own
1:30 p.m.: Encouraging the Discouraged Adolescent and
Adult
Goal: Participants will study various strategies to
encourage adolescents and adults including identifying
assets and strengths, establishing meaningful and relevant
goals and managing perfection.
3:00p.m. BREAK
3:15 p.m.: Self and Therapeutic Encouragement
Goal: Participants will establish means to encourage
themselves and others through the examination of the
components of therapeutic encouragement.
